I bet that title looks like I’m trying to apply some witty synopsis as a discussion launch point. I’m not.
It’s time for lunch, I’m stuck watching a progress bar fill on a database operation, and I’m craving some fish. That’s pretty much it. Jerry’s has a really good fish dinner, and Golden Corral used to have breaded tilapia that I couldn’t get enough of (yes, my tastes are that low brow). Neither helps much now, since one is 30 miles away and the other long gone. Maybe Tolly Ho’s has some kind of fish, but I don’t think so.
I doubt the question I’m about to ask will do me much good because A) Who in their right minds would actually be reading this blog, and B) I can’t cook anything outside of a campfire. But I’ll ask it anyway. Does anyone out there know any decent breaded fish recipes they are willing to share?
On the subject, are there any restaurants within walking distance of Memorial Coliseum with tilapia, catfish, or something similar on the menu?

Hey DC,
We have a fish recipe we love, talapia with Israeli Couscous and Avocado:
I transcribed it from the page we have (ripped out of a cooking mag) so hopefully I didn’t make any mistakes, but it’s sort of a “follow the recipe once then make it up as you go the next time”.
Also, you may want to check out; http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/seafoodwatch.aspx
I love seafood as much (or more) then most anyone, but the majority of it is harvested unsustainably. That and my sister (the biologist) just told me that a study showed almost 1/2 of the imported seafood for her state is badly contaminated, so I’d try to stick w/ bluegill from the Lickin! 🙂
P.S. For the record how do I turn off the music on your site?

————————-
2 tsp mild chili powder
1 Tbsp + 2.5 Tbsp olive oil
4 fish fillets (~6 oz each)
3/4 cup Israeli couscous (it’s bigger, more the size of tapioca beads, sometimes called perl couscous)
3.5 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp soy sauce
1/2 cup of shopped scallions
1 Tbsp chopped parsley
1 cup diced avocado
2 slides grilled means (for garnish, so they’re optional)
1. Prehead grill or skilled and prepare couscous according to the package instructions
2. combine chili powder and 1 tablespoon olive oil; brush over fish. Grill fish for about 2 minutes on each side
3. Meanwhile (i.e. before), in a large bowl combine 2.5 tablespoons olive oil, lemon juice, sugar, soy sauce, scallions, parsley (we don’t use this) and avocado. Fold into couscous and season to taste with salt and pepper.
4. Place each filet on a bed of couscous, and sarnish with grilled lemon

Jay,
Thanks for the tip, I’ll defiantly have to try that out! And by that I mean “hand it to Nichole”.
I also didn’t know you had a blog going. I’ll add it to my links and when I get some sit down time purse though it a bit. As you can see here, I’m just getting started with mine. 10 years late to the party, but oh well.
As for the music, it depends on the browser. For IE it’s triggered by a bgsound command and there isn’t much you can do beyond muting. If you are on anything that supports embeds there should be a small player control in the site footer. Implanting background music is a horrible, horrible design choice, but I just couldn’t resist for the holidays.
Thanks again for the tip!

Frankly I have no idea how I’d first added your to my reader but, well here we are 🙂
Well, unfortunately, I haven’t been blogging all that often but it was something I (finally) picked up. If I get a chance I’m actually going to ‘take it down’ (i.e. rebuild it in something else) and see what I can make. I really dislike the wordpress interface (but love all the plugins). That’s just the geek in me wanting to play.
Yea, the background music drives me nuts but mostly because my ‘reading’ style is to open a ton of tabs and then work through them. So I had yours open for a while and then kept wanting to watch some videos and would realize why I had things on mute… 😀 No worries though, I made it through that crazy list of tabs. Most sites have an “audio off” button and I kept looking for yours.
Totally agree with you on the mode of cooking, not that I can’t or won’t but my wife learned some great skills so I don’t have to now! 😀 It’s one of our favorite recipes but definitely make sure she gets the right couscous!
Mostly it, Merry Holidays!
